What you'll learn

  • Grade 4 Mathematics, students will build upon their foundational skills to tackle more complex and abstract concepts. The course is structured around the key strands of the Cambridge Primary curriculum, fostering both procedural fluency and conceptual understanding.
  • Students will learn to:
  • 1. Number & Problem Solving
  • Master multi-digit multiplication and division, using efficient written methods.
  • Work with fractions and decimals, including comparing, ordering, and finding equivalents (e.g., recognizing that ½ = 0.5 = 50%).
  • Solve multi-step word problems involving all four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
  • Explore factors, multiples, and begin to understand prime numbers.
  • 2. Geometry & Measure
  • Calculate the perimeter and area of rectangles and composite shapes.
  • Measure, compare, and estimate using standard units (km, m, cm, mm, kg, g, l, ml).
  • Tell time and calculate with units of time, including converting between seconds, minutes, and hours.
  • Classify 2D shapes and 3D objects based on their geometric properties (sides, angles, faces, vertices).
  • Understand angles as a measure of turn, and identify right angles, acute, and obtuse angles.
  • 3. Statistics & Probability
  • Construct and interpret a wider range of graphs and charts, including bar graphs, pie charts, and line graphs.
  • Analyze data sets to find the mode, median, mean (average), and range.
  • Understand and describe probability using terms like certain, likely, unlikely, and impossible.
  • Course Approach: Learning is active and applied. Students will develop critical thinking and reasoning skills by explaining their methods, checking their work for reasonableness, and applying mathematics to practical, real-world situations. This solid foundation prepares them seamlessly for the challenges of Grade 5.
